How to Get to Puerto Viejo De Talamanca
Arriving to Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is quite simple and there are many options.
By Bus
The bus is the simplest choice and it is cheap with five daily departure times directly from San Jose. The departure for Puerto Viejo de Talamanca and Cahuita is from the Terminal Atlantico Norte (Terminal San Carlos) located between Avenida 9 and Calle 12 in Barrio Mexico. The buses are from the company Transportes MEPE. At the ticket offices, the only place where tickets can be bought, you will pay approximately 8 dollars and the trip is about 5 hours including a short stop in Limon. You can book the trip the day before via phone (except for the 6am departure) but remember that they only speak Spanish and that you have to show up at the ticket office at least 30 minutes before the departure time.

With an expense of about $50-$60 per person you can take advantage of a minibus service which is air-conditioned. There are many private companies which provide this service. We are happy to organize it for you free of fees. You will be picked up directly from your hotel in San Jose or from the airport and brought directly to destination.
With a Rental Car
If you plan on renting a car all major companies have offices in Costa Rica with locations inside or close to the international airport of San Jose. With the car you take the highway 32 from San Jose and take it all the way to Limon. From there you want to take the 36 in the direction of Cahuita and Puerto Viejo de Talamanca following the street along the coast. After Hone Creek follow the 256 till your arrive in Puerto Viejo. We recommend that you do not travel after sunset because the part of the road that you would have to travel shortly after leaving San Jose crosses the Parco National Braulio Carillo and it has no illumination, no cellular signal and many curves.
If you want to rent a car only once you get here there is ADOBE rent a car in the centre of Puerto Viejo.

How to find US
About 1 km before arriving to the center of Puerto Viejo, "highway" 256 will bend to the right. You will see "The Point" sports bar and grill on the left hand side as you take the bend. The road to get to us is located just two hundred meters past "The Point" on the right hand side. You will see the sign for Casa Amma (a yoga retreat place) at the entrance of our road. Once on the road follow it for 300 meters as it first veers left and then shortly after veers right and finally turning left onto our road. Please print the map below for a visual of the directions!
